We know, the Weaverville area doesn't do Versace, Vera Wang, Barney's, Bloomingdales or Burberry's, but shopping in and around Weaverville will surprise you with its quality, variety, and originality. Boutique clothing stores highlight local designers working in classic styles, Appalachian mountain modern, funky retro, and many other looks, as well as the big-name national designers found at exclusive retail stores. Classically trained weavers from renowned crafts centers like the Penland School create hand-woven homespun fabrics, clothing, and accessories and such traditional items as Appalachian mountain shawls and comforters.

You can buy a Cherokee basket in a traditional Native American design to use as a purse or a handmade walking stick from a traditional mountain woodcarver. Asheville jewelry designers win national awards, downtown boutiques offer handcrafted original jewelry from WNC artists, and even a custom-made hat revival has taken root.

Around here, in fact, you can find not only the requisite recreational clothing for mountain sports or custom made shoes, boots, and sandals – you can even pick up that classic little black dress!
